Gokha Amin is a PhD student in the Department of History at the University of California, Santa Barbara, specializing in the modern history of Yemen starting from the nineteenth century until the present day. Her research work focuses on questions related to race and racism in the Arabian Peninsula, and in particular the social history of ethnic and marginalized minorities in Yemen. Gokha is concerned with social questions and resistance movements within these societies. Prior to joining the PhD program, Gokha obtained a BA in Political Science and Religious Studies and then an MA in International and International Studies. During her master’s studies, her work focused on Yemeni women, Yemeni personal status law, human rights, and development.
