WHO WE ARE

INSAF Center for Defending Freedoms & Minorities is a non-profit and non-governmental Yemeni organization, established in 2019. It seeks to defend public freedoms and minority rights in Yemen by documenting violations, providing support tools and advocacy, and conducting research and studies related to minorities, freedoms and human rights, as well as conducting capacity building in this field through organizing courses and workshops and holding seminars and events that enhance awareness regarding the importance of freedoms and protecting minorities.

OUR MISSION

The Center seeks to defend rights, protect freedoms of worship and expression, protect religious and ethnic minorities in Yemen by collecting, analyzing, and publishing data and then collecting support and advocacy mechanisms through data, reports, and events. The Center also seeks to build the capacities of activists with the help of a qualified team who believes in the Center’s values. All that is for the purpose of reaching a society where fairness, justice, and equality prevail.


OUR GOLAS

1- Promoting awareness of the importance and defense of the rights of religious and ethnic minorities.

2- Defending freedoms of opinion, belief and worship.

3- Defending human rights without discrimination as to color, gender or belief.

4- Increasing the capabilities of human rights activists, especially youth.

5- Contributing to peace-building and confronting racism and hate speech.

2- Working in accordance with the rules and norms of human rights, international humanitarian law and relevant international agreements.

CENTER'S TEAM

EMAN HOMAID

Chairperson

Eman Homaid is the founder and chairperson of the INSAF Center for Defending Freedoms & Minorities.  She has worked as an advocate for religious and ethnic minorities in Yemen since 2017.  Co-author of the book “Minorities in Yemen, Reality and Challenges”.  She previously headed several activities related to supporting development, training and rehabilitation in Yemen, including heading the Shabab Center for Training and Rehabilitation.  She has also worked with local and international networks to support minorities in Yemen and protect their right to life, political participation, worship and expression.

In a post on its official Facebook page, the British embassy in Yemen praised the Chairperson of INSAF Center, pointing out that Eman Homaid did not shy away from making any effort to achieve victory for mankind and its dignity.

TARIQ NASSER AL-RABBASH

ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER

Tariq Al-Rabbash is the technical officer in the Center. He has good experience in integrated design processes. Previously, he worked as a technical officer with a number of local institutions. in addition, he has technical experience of entering digital data into websites.

Al-Rabbash obtained his Bachelor’s degree in 2018 from the Faculty of Engineering, Aden University, Department of Mechanical Engineering.

GOKH AMIN

RESEARCHER

Gokha Amin is a PhD student in the Department of History at the University of California, Santa Barbara, specializing in the modern history of Yemen starting from the nineteenth century until the present day.  Her research work focuses on questions related to race and racism in the Arabian Peninsula, and in particular the social history of ethnic and marginalized minorities in Yemen.  Gokha is concerned with social questions and resistance movements within these societies.  Prior to joining the PhD program, Gokha obtained a BA in Political Science and Religious Studies and then an MA in International and International Studies.  During her master’s studies, her work focused on Yemeni women, Yemeni personal status law, human rights, and development.

MAHMOUD RIZQ BAHKALI

RESEARCHER

Mahmoud is a human rights activist and researcher in the field of defending the marginalized minority in Yemen.  He holds a bachelor’s degree in Sharia law from the University of Sana’a, and a 3-year diploma specialized in taking care of the gifted.  He has worked as a researcher in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for nearly ten years, at a major scientific publishing institution.  He worked for a long time in the relief and volunteer field in different regions of Yemen.

Mahmoud Rizq

OSAMAH ALASBAHI

LEGAL OFFICER

Osama Al-Asbahi is a lawyer, human rights activist, and researcher in the field of human rights and international humanitarian law, holding a master’s degree in law.  He worked as a trainer in the field of democracy and human rights, and headed the network of lawyers against corruption, and also held the position of the president of the Justice Foundation for Advocacy, Consulting, and Training.  He holds many qualifying courses in the fields of diplomatic relations, international arbitration, leadership, and strategic planning, and participated in local and international courses and seminars.

Majd Al-Lozy

ADVOCACY / FOLLOW-UP OFFICER

Majd Al-Lozy is an Advocacy and Follow-up Officer. Worked previously as the Deputy Director-General of the Yemen Youth Platform. He has received several training courses in the field of human rights, contributed to some humanitarian work, including the distribution of relief kits, and participated in the development of child protection policies. He is currently an undergraduate university student studying Business Administration.
