February 3, 2021

INSAF Center, represented by the Head of the Center Ms. Eman Homaid, and the Executive Director Dr. Mohammad Al-Mahfali, met yesterday, Sunday, 1/31/2021, with Samuel Gibb, the official at the British Embassy in charge of Yemen’s human right file.  During the one hour-long Zoom meeting, the two sides discussed developments taking place in Yemen, specifically those related to the violations against minorities, and in particular the Jews and Baha’is.  The issue of the detainee Libby Salem Marhabi, a Jewish citizen detained in Houthi prisons since 2016, was also discussed.  Furthermore, the possibility of pushing forward issues with human rights dimensions was discussed, to be included among the priority issues in the talks of the conflicting parties in Yemen.

The British embassy expressed its appreciation for the efforts made by INSAF Center in defending freedoms & minorities in Yemen in this sensitive circumstance in the country’s history.  The embassy also expressed its readiness to exert more efforts in order to push the Yemeni parties to respect human rights principles and make them a priority in the upcoming talks.
