INSAF Center for Defending Freedoms & Minorities administration met this morning with the German Deputy Ambassador to Yemen, Mr. Jan Krausser, via Zoom, where issues of common concern were reviewed, especially with regard to the protection of minorities during the critical circumstance Yemen is currently facing.
During the meeting, developments in the human rights arena were discussed, including the issue of violations committed against the Jewish community, and in particular, the meeting touched on the report issued by the Center regarding the detainee Libby Salem Marhaby, who is spending his fifth year in Houthi prisons in Sanaa. The security services under the authority of the Houthis refuse to release him without providing any justification for the continuation of this detention, which is carried out in inhumane conditions, especially as he suffers from extremely difficult health conditions.
Both sides also discussed the issue of the Baha’i minority, which is still suffering from being pursued by the Houthis, after a group of them were exiled outside the country. The meeting parties agreed to meet again at a later time to discuss developments and how to proceed in order to protect freedoms and minorities to ensure they freely practice their beliefs.
