INSAF Center Demands Lifting the Siege on the Office of their Lawyer

INSAF Center Demands Lifting the Siege on the Office of their Lawyer
May 29, 2022

INSAF Center for Defending Freedoms & Minorities is following with great concern what our lawyer in Sana’a, Mr. Abdul Basit Ghazi, was subjected to from the security forces affiliated with the Al-Olafi Police Station along with armed men besieging his office located in the Tahrir area in the capital, Sana’a, at 11 pm on Monday, 23/5/2022.

This occurred after Mr. Ghazi submitted a petition to the Public Prosecutor in Sana’a calling for the release of our unlawfully imprisoned client Libby Musa Salem Marhabi, and for posting on his Facebook page about the suffering that Libby is exposed to.  Over 50 lawyers and human rights activists have expressed their solidarity with the detainee.

Such illegal actions are considered crimes against lawyers and defenders of rights and freedoms, in addition to the violations practiced against our detained client.  INSAF Center holds the authorities in Sana’a legal responsibility, and the responsibility of our lawyer in Sana’a’s life and safety, especially since he did not appear in any video recording or publication on his page that proves the lifting of the siege on his office or the fate of his life and his young child Karim.

INSAF Center also hopes that the Bar and Jurists Syndicate in Sana’a will assign a legal team to follow up on the security and judicial authorities in order to present those who have besieged our lawyers’ office to the Public Prosecution and interrogating them based on the provisions of the constitution and the law.
