INSAF Center for Defending Freedoms & Minorities stated that it was able to contribute in helping a Christian family and aid in relocating the six-member family of Bashir Al-Bakari outside of Yemen.
The family was able to receive financial assistance from INSAF Center for transportation and travel expenses, in addition to logistical and moral coordination. They are not in a stable condition and are located in a safe place.
The chairperson of INSAF, Eman Homaid, pointed out that the Al-Bakari family suffered a lot of harassment in Yemen after the head of the family was chased by security authorities in Taiz governorate on charges of apostasy, and they attempted to carry out the death sentence on him due to his religious beliefs.
In a post on his Facebook page, Bashir Al-Bakari announced that he was reunited with his family and children, and thanked INSAF Center, for its assistance and for helping reunite him with his family.
Security authorities had arrested Bashir al-Bakari for over two months on charges of apostasy and had suffered from societal discrimination to the extent of having his life threatened, which prompted him on July 16, 2021, to flee and search for a safe place, until he was helped by the Center and relocated outside of Yemen in October of last year. INSAF Center rejects all illegal practices that violate the rights of individuals to embrace ideas and beliefs and respect the Yemeni constitution, which affirms the implementation of the United Nations Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. It calls for the halt of persecuting religious minorities in Yemen, stressing the guarantee of freedom of religion and the protection of all minorities from threats and acts of violence.
