The three-day training course for the community initiatives on gender-based violence, organized by INSAF for Rights & Development was concluded in the capital, Aden.
The course, in which 20 youth initiatives participated, included several concepts related to gender, the difference between sex and gender, the roles of men and women within the domestic unit and society, institutions influencing the perpetuation of gender roles, factors that change roles, and mechanisms for eliminating the phenomenon of violence against women.
The Gender Trainer, Dr. Ashjan Al-Fadhli, and the Administrative Officer at INSAF, Ms. Athar Shamshir, explained that this course comes within the activities of combating violence against women, which sheds light on gender issues in Yemen, especially during the circumstances that the country is currently going through.
They also pointed out that the participants in the event represent youth initiatives and those working in the field of peace, climate, and advocacy for women’s related issues.
Both stressed the importance of the collaboration of all societal parties and stakeholders in educating society about the danger of dealing with factors that contribute to violence against women, and the necessity of working to confront this phenomenon, giving women the right to participate in society, and promoting comprehensive peace in the country.
