INSAF Center for Rights and Development, in partnership with La Guilde, has launched the “Screen of Peace” project—an innovative initiative in Yemen that brings a mobile cinema experience to children in underserved communities. In the absence of entertainment venues due to the country’s challenging conditions, the project aims to provide children with a safe, educational, and entertaining environment, fostering creativity, learning, and emotional well-being.
The project targets more than 400 boys and girls. The joy and happiness on their faces while watching the content were evident, and they were enthusiastic, confirming the importance of continuing such activities.
The project features mobile film screenings in public neighborhoods, utilizing modern technology to showcase educational and entertaining films that are carefully selected to suit children’s ages and address their psychological and social needs.
Mr. Mahmoud Al-Kawkani, Executive Director of INSAF Center for Rights and Development, emphasized the importance of the initiative in creating safe spaces for children to learn and play in Yemen. He stated:
“Cinema is more than just entertainment; it is a powerful tool for education and awareness that enhances children’s mental well-being and helps them engage positively with society. We hope this project will leave a lasting impact on their lives.”
Ms. Maria Ahmed, Project Manager, added:
“We believe that cinema is a powerful medium for communication, capable of fostering tolerance and peace. ‘Screen of Peace’ is a pioneering initiative aimed at reviving cinematic culture in communities affected by conflict, particularly in Aden, which has faced significant challenges in recent years.”
She further explained that the project gives children a platform for entertainment and self-expression through animated films, contributing to social peace and reinforcing values of coexistence. The children’s enthusiasm and happiness were evident, reflecting the emotional and psychological benefits of the experience.
Ms. Ahmed also urged civil society organizations to adopt and support similar initiatives, emphasizing that cinema has the power to create positive change and restore hope in communities.
The project is part of INSAF Center for Rights and Development’s ongoing efforts, in collaboration with La Guilde, to promote children’s rights and provide safe spaces through initiatives that address their psychological, educational, and recreational needs.
