Insaf Founder Honored with “Marianne Initiative” Award by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs
March 12, 2024

We are thrilled to announce that Eman Homaid, a prominent Yemeni human rights activist and the head of the Insaf Centre for Rights and Development, has been selected as one of the distinguished winners of the prestigious Marianne Initiative. This honor was bestowed upon Eman Homaid and 15 other remarkable women and men by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Marianne Initiative, named after the national emblem of the French Republic symbolizing freedom and reason, recognizes individuals who have shown exceptional dedication and commitment to various struggles. Eman Homaid’s tireless advocacy for religious and ethnic minorities in Yemen since 2017 has been instrumental in promoting their rights and amplifying their voices.

As part of the award, Eman Homaid and her fellow recipients will receive specialized support for one year. This support will enable them to develop projects aimed at defending human rights and continuing their vital work in their respective countries or in France, should they choose to stay.

The Marianne Award is widely regarded as the most prestigious accolade in France and holds significant importance throughout Europe. It offers unparalleled opportunities, including meetings with French and European officials, training in human rights and political speeches, and visits to prominent institutions such as the headquarters of the European Union and the Human Rights Council.

Eman Homaid has made remarkable contributions to the advancement of minority rights in Yemen. As the founder and president of the Insaf Centre for Rights and Development, she has championed the cause of marginalized groups and worked tirelessly to ensure their fundamental rights to life, political participation, worship, and expression.

Her dedication to the cause has been recognized internationally, and she has co-authored the book “Minorities in Yemen: Reality and Challenges.” Eman Homaid’s impactful work extends beyond Yemen, as she collaborates with local and international networks to provide support and protection to vulnerable groups.

We congratulate Eman Homaid on this well-deserved recognition and express our gratitude for her unwavering commitment to human rights. Her achievements serve as an inspiration to all those striving for a more just and inclusive world.
