INSAF Center for Defending Freedoms & Minorities in Yemen held a joint meeting via Zoom with Mr. Djeyhoun Ostowar, Deputy Dutch Ambassador to Yemen, and Samuel Gibb, who is in charge of the human rights affairs at the British Embassy in Yemen, along with Eman Homaid, Chairperson of the Center and Dr. Mohammed Al-Mahfali, the Center’s Executive Director.
During the meeting, several of the issues adopted by the center were discussed, as well as the situation of the Jewish community in Yemen. In the context of the meeting, a report published by the center on the Jewish detainee Libby Salem Marhaby was reviewed, along with a discussion over his health status. He is currently in the detention facilities of the security forces under the control of the Houthis in Sana’a.
During the meeting, the issue of the persecution of religious minorities in Yemen and the best ways and means to reach peaceful coexistence and freely practice religious beliefs were discussed. The attendees also discussed the damages of racist discourse directed against minorities and its impact on the societal fabric in Yemen.
Both sides praised the center’s work in defending freedoms and minorities in Yemen.
