In a statement presented by INSAF Center for Defending Freedoms & Minorities and the Information & Rehabilitation Center for Human Rights, Dr. Mohamed Al Mahfli, Executive Director of INSAF Center, delivered a thoroughly speech on March 22 at the Human Rights Council under clause No. 9 of the 46th session currently held in Geneva.
The statement expressed grave concern regarding the bad condition of religious minorities and other marginalized groups in Yemen, due to their beliefs, ideology or color.
It also pointed out that in light of the ongoing war which is escalating violence, marginalization and repressive practices against these minorities, and at a time when the international community is trying to push the peace process in Yemen and release prisoners on both sides, repressive measures continue.
The statement also demanded that the Council and its members consider representing these minorities and those without a voice at this critical time, as the Houthi group is practicing systematic violence against the Baha’i minority through the continuation of malicious and unfair trials in order to pressure them. It also continues to suppress the Jewish minority, and the illegal detention of Libby Salem Marhaby.
It also recommended the necessity of moving towards criminalizing the systematic racism practiced on a large scale against the largest category of Yemenis because of their color.
