INSAF Center for Defending Freedoms & Minorities concluded a training course on basic concepts of human rights within the first phase of the human protection program, which was hosted by the Yemeni embassy in the Egyptian capital, with the participation of 18 Yemeni young women and men residing in Cairo.
Over a period of three days, the participants received extensive and qualitative training on the international legitimacy of human rights, human rights concepts, international human rights instruments which include basic human rights treaties, the characteristics and concepts of human rights, and the difference between international law, international humanitarian law and international human rights law.
The participants were also introduced to the role of civil society in treaty and non-treaty mechanisms for the protection of human rights of the United Nations, parallel reports (shadow reports) and how to formulate them, and how to attend discussion sessions and its regulations.
At the closing ceremony, held at the Yemeni embassy in Cairo, the chairperson of the center, Eman Homaid, thanked the trainers and the embassy for hosting the event. She urged the participants to continue their activities and convert theoretical lessons into practical reality by supporting Yemeni detainees in general, in particular prisoners of conscience and religious minorities, as they are the most targeted.
The formation of a team of trainees was also approved to exchange experiences, provided that another course will be organized within this program that the center will implement at a later time, whether in Aden or a different country.
