INSAF Center for Defending Freedoms & Minorities held a meeting via Zoom with team of European Union’s Delegation to Yemen as number of issues in relation to civil society and human rights work in Yemen were discussed, and in particular, minorities’ issues and how to enhance protection thereof.
During the meeting, which was attended by Ms. Eman Hemid, the Chairperson of the center, and Dr. Mohammad Al-Mahfali, the center’s executive director, on behalf of the center, and was attended by Marion Lalisse, Deputy Head of European Union’s mission to Yemen, Sara Sadik, head of political section in the mission, Lucia Parducci, the official in charge of civil society & human rights, on behalf of the European Union’s mission, the developments of the current situation in Yemen along with repercussions of struggle for public freedoms, and in particular, for minorities’ rights and systematic violations committed against religious minorities were discussed.
INSAF center presented a report about the center’s efforts to defend minorities especially the Jewish community and the detainee Libby Salem Marhaby, emphasis was also placed on the importance to push towards pressure on Houthi in order to release him as soon as possible. Both sides agreed on the need to cooperate and communicate in the future in pursuit of mutual objectives regarding the protection of rights, freedoms, and enhancement of the governance of civil society organizations.
