A virtual meeting was held yesterday, Wednesday 15th of December, between diplomats and Middle Eastern specialists from the US State Department with the chairperson of INSAF Center for Defending Freedoms & Minorities, Eman Homaid, along with the US Commission on International Religious Freedom.
The meeting dealt with several human rights issues, most notably the situation of religious freedoms in Yemen, detainees held based on religious grounds, and repression based on religious belief. During the meeting, Homaid reviewed the reality of religious minorities and the main challenges facing freedom of belief.
The attendees expressed how they valued the great role and efforts made by the INSAF Center regarding the rights of minorities in Yemen, in light of the conditions that the country has been experiencing for years.
The meeting comes within the framework of discussions with specialists regarding access to treatment mechanisms to improve the reality of religious freedoms in Yemen.
The meeting concluded with several important recommendations and stressed the importance of continuing to hold follow-up meetings that build a new reality that preserves freedom of belief in Yemen.
