INSAF Center for Defending Freedoms & Minorities met with the Director of Middle East Programs at the US Institute of Peace (USIP), Mr. Sarhang Hamasaeed, and Program Assistant, Tyler Scrimager, during its September 2023 visit to Washington, DC.
During the meeting, the issue of defending freedoms and minorities in Yemen was discussed, where both the Center’s President, Eman Homaid, and the Executive Director, Ibrahim Nagib, presented an overview of the challenges facing freedoms and minorities in the country. The focus was also on protecting diversity and cultural heritage in Yemen, and the necessity of Supporting Yemeni society, especially concerning the rights of women, youth, and minorities, and supporting, protecting, and participating in the peace process and decision-making in relation to Security Council Resolution No. 1325, as well as inflammatory rhetoric and the need to support civil society in Yemen.
Opinions and experiences were exchanged during the meeting, on ways to achieve progress in protecting minority rights and freedoms in Yemen and to enhance communication and cooperation between the Center and the USIP.
These meetings between the INSAF Center And the United States Institute of Peace reflect their shared commitment to promoting minority rights and freedoms in Yemen and promoting democracy and sustainable development.
