A delegation from the Insaf Center for Rights and Development met with H.E. Ishraq Al-Maqtari, Minister of Legal Affairs, as part of efforts to enhance cooperation between state institutions and civil society organizations in legal and human rights fields.
The Center’s delegation included Saleem Al-Aghbari, Programs and Projects Manager, and Abdullah Abbas, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer. During the meeting, both sides discussed areas of cooperation between the Center and the Ministry, particularly the review of legislative provisions related to the protection of women and children, and efforts to develop them in ways that strengthen the legal protection framework and respond to current challenges.
The delegation also presented the initiatives led by the Center in the fields of awareness, rehabilitation, and capacity building to combat cybercrime—particularly cases of online blackmail—along with joint programs implemented with judicial and law enforcement authorities to enhance the institutional response to such cases.
The meeting further addressed initiatives undertaken by the Center in recent years to develop specialized legislation on cybercrime. Discussions focused on potential collaboration between the Ministry and the Center to support these efforts and advance the adoption of such legislation, contributing to stronger legal protection for victims and keeping pace with ongoing digital developments.
In addition, both sides reviewed the broader human rights, humanitarian, and development initiatives implemented by the Center, emphasizing the importance of strengthening partnerships between government institutions and civil society organizations to support justice, uphold the rule of law, and enhance the protection of rights and freedoms.
For her part, Minister Ishraq Al-Maqtari affirmed that the issues raised by the Center during the meeting align with the priorities of the Ministry’s program of work. She also expressed her appreciation for cooperation, coordination, and integration with civil society organizations—particularly Insaf Center for Rights and Development—in order to advance the legislative environment and strengthen the protection of rights and freedoms.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties emphasized the importance of continuing coordination and joint cooperation to further develop the legislative environment and reinforce national efforts aimed at protecting society, particularly the groups most vulnerable to violations.
