French Ambassador to Yemen Visits Cybercrime Unit Rehabilitation Project Supported by Insaf Center for Rights and Development
Insaf Center for Rights and Development accompanied Her Excellency Catherine Corm-Kammoun, Ambassador of France to Yemen, during her visit today to the Cyber Blackmail Unit and the site designated for the expansion of the Cybercrime Unit in Aden.
The French Ambassador, accompanied by the delegation from Insaf Center for Rights and Development and the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, conducted a field visit to the offices of the Cyber Blackmail Unit, where they reviewed the daily workflow and ongoing efforts to combat such crimes. They also received a briefing on the Unit’s achievements and the technical and logistical needs required for its further development. The visit additionally included the proposed site for the expansion of the Cybercrime Unit, where the Center presented the planned rehabilitation and construction interventions.
The Ambassador also visited the headquarters of the Security Directorate of the Capital Aden, in the presence of Major General Mutahar Al-Shaibi, Director of Security of the Capital Aden, along with several security leaders. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in addressing cybercrimes, particularly cyber blackmail cases, as well as supporting development projects related to the infrastructure of relevant institutions.
During the meeting, the team of the Insaf Center for Rights and Development presented the key interventions implemented under the “E-Justice for Women in Yemen – Brave Women” project, aimed at supporting and rehabilitating the Cyber Blackmail Unit. These interventions include technical, training, and equipment support, in addition to enhancing coordination mechanisms with security and judicial authorities, contributing to improved responses to such cases and greater protection for groups most at risk, particularly women and girls.
The meeting also addressed the importance of developing the Cybercrime Unit through rehabilitation programs, specialized training, and technical equipment, in order to strengthen its capacity to handle cyber blackmail cases effectively, alongside raising community awareness about the dangers of these crimes and methods of prevention.
During the visit, the French Ambassador reaffirmed her country’s support for efforts aimed at promoting human rights, empowering women, and combating cybercrime in Yemen. Insaf Center for Rights and Development expressed its appreciation for this support, considering it an important part of the partnership that contributes to strengthening digital protection and enhancing responses to cyber blackmail cases.
This visit comes within the framework of ongoing cooperation between Insaf Center for Rights and Development and its partners, supporting digital security, strengthening protection mechanisms, and improving institutional responses to cybercrime cases in Aden.
