INSAF for Rights & Development held today a training course for community initiatives on gender-based violence in Aden, which will continue for three days. Twenty participants attended the course, in which youth initiatives, including several concepts related to gender, the difference between sex and gender, the roles of men and women within the domestic unit and society, institutions influencing the perpetuation of gender roles, factors that change roles, and mechanisms for eliminating the phenomenon of violence against women.
Dr. Ashjan Al-Fadhli, a specialized gender trainer, and Athar Shamshir, administrative officer at INSAF, spoke during the training about the course and the activities of a 16-day campaign to combat violence against women, which highlights gender issues in Yemen, especially with the circumstances the country is going through. They also pointed out that the participants in the event represent youth initiatives and those working in the field of peace, climate, and advocacy for women’s issues. They stressed the importance of the collaboration of all societal parties and stakeholders in educating society about the dangers of dealing with factors that contribute to violence against women, and the necessity of working to confront this phenomenon, giving women their rights to participate in society, and promoting comprehensive peace in the country.
