Chairperson of Insaf Center for Rights and Development Participates in an International Side Event during the 62nd Session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva

Ms. Eman Homaid, Chairperson of Insaf Center for Rights and Development, participated in an international side event held alongside the 62nd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva. The event focused on the situation of women in armed conflict settings, with particular attention to Yemen and Sudan, and brought together diplomats, international experts, and human rights defenders.

During her intervention, Ms. Homaid highlighted the major challenges facing Yemeni women amid the ongoing conflict, emphasizing that protecting women’s rights requires ending impunity, strengthening the rule of law, and supporting state institutions as the cornerstone for safeguarding rights and fundamental freedoms.

She also addressed the growing challenges confronting women, including their limited participation in peace processes and decision-making, as well as the continued campaigns of defamation, incitement, digital violence, and cyber extortion targeting women—particularly women political leaders, civil society leaders, and women human rights defenders. She stressed the importance of ensuring legal protection and meaningful participation of women at all stages of peacebuilding.

Participants in the event underscored the need for all parties to the conflict to comply with international humanitarian law, strengthen accountability and justice mechanisms, and provide psychological, medical, and economic support to survivors, as essential steps toward protecting women’s rights and enhancing their role in peacebuilding and sustainable development.

Insaf Center for Rights and Development extends its sincere appreciation to the Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights Association, chaired by Dr. Ayman Aqil, and to the Eliska Development Organization for organizing this important event. The Center also thanks all participants for their valuable contributions to advancing the discussion on the rights of women in conflict settings and for helping elevate this critical issue on the international agenda.
